An INF wheelchair camp in Nepal's Gulmi District has helped 38 people with disabilities. The camp earlier this month was organised by INF's Green Pastures Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Pokhara. An occupational therapist, physical therapist and wheelchair and orthopædic experts carried out the camp in Tamgash in Gulmi. After publicity on local radio stations, 25 people arrived for wheelchair assessments on the first day. As a result of a radio interview with INF staff a further 13 people arrived the following day. 'We were able to issue a few wheelchairs on the camp but most patients will visit Green Pastures after their wheelchairs have been assembled,' says Green Pastures Superintendent Dr Paul Roche. 'We've been seeing four patients a week from Gulmi for the last few weeks,' adds Paul. 'When they come to Green Pastures they are issued with their wheelchair and given training on its use and maintenance. During the camp we were approached by people from a neighbouring district about the possibility of running a similar camp there in future.' A number of children with cerebral palsy attended the camp, and will be issued with customised wheelchairs.
