INF yesterday received an award for its work on behalf of people with hearing impairment in Nepal. INF Speech and Language Therapist Nicola Stewart travelled from Pokhara to Kathmandu to accept the Kalyan Mani Acharya Dixit Award from representatives of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. The award particularly recognises: the work of INF's ear camps programme, established by former INF Member Dr Mike Smith in 1993; INF's speech and language therapy work, notably at Pokhara's Western Regional Hospital, which has been developed by Nicola and former INF Member Rosie Sleator; and INF's fundraising efforts for cochlear implant operations for profoundly deaf Nepali children. Nicola was accompanied at the presentation ceremony by her parents, the Rev. Dr Derek and Mildred Poots, who have travelled from Ballymoney, County Antrim in Northern Ireland to visit Nepal.
