Easter in Nepal
21 Mar 08
Easter will be celebrated this weekend by hundreds of thousands of Christians in Nepal.
Christians form a small but growing minority in the country [estimates range from 400 thousand to 1 million in a population of around 25 million], which is predominantly Hindu with a strong Buddhist influence [the Buddha was born in Nepal] and small communities of Muslims and Sikhs. Many Easter services will be held on Saturday, the traditional day of rest in Nepal and the day when most churches usually gather together for their main weekly meetings.
