Elections in Nepal
10 Apr 08
Today is the day on which Nepal’s first general elections for around nine years will finally be held.
Nationwide democratic elections have not been possible in recent years because of a combination of political and ethnic unrest, and polls were cancelled on two occasions in 2007.
If a new parliament can be elected on the basis of the vote scheduled today, then it is widely anticipated that it will vote to abolish the country’s 240-year-old monarchy.
Nepali people are hoping that the elections will be as peaceful as possible.
