INF’s Parwati Oli was yesterday presented with a special award at The Leprosy Mission's International Assembly in Canada.
Parwati works as a nurse at INF’s Green Pastures Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for people with disabilities in Pokhara, and has been honoured for her work as a founding member and vice-president of IDEA Nepal, an international human rights organisation that advocates on behalf of people affected by leprosy.
A spokesperson for The Leprosy Mission says: ‘Parwati has a heart to see women more empowered and aware of their own rights and dignity. She has shown courage in overcoming the challenges she herself has faced through leprosy, and has made an international contribution to improving the circumstances of those affected by leprosy. Through this award we will honour a special person who has overcome the effects of leprosy to become an example to others.’
A spokesperson for IDEA Nepal, which nominated Parwati for the award, says that: ‘Even during difficult times Parwati did not lose courage and interest in continuing her studies. She is an inspiration to all young women affected by leprosy, that they too can achieve their dreams.’
INF would like to congratulate Parwati on her outstanding achievement.
Congratulations, Parwati!
