There were celebrations at INF's work centres in western Nepal yesterday to mark the annual 'INF Day' on 20 November.
In Pokhara, the celebrations were held in the grounds of INF's Green Pastures Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for people with disabilities. A special programme was led by INF Nepal Executive Director Deependra Gautam and attended by local dignitaries together with: Grishma Parajuli, INF Nepal Chairman; Jos Johnston, INF Nepal Programmes Director; Himalaya Sigdel, INF Kaski District Programme Manager; Reinhold Betz, INF Worldwide Chairman; Alison Craven, INF UK board member; and Ian Bissett, INF New Zealand Chairman. INF clients were also among those attending and speaking at the programme. Also among the speakers was 97-year-old Premi Mukhia. Together with her late husband David, Premi was one of the original Nepali Christian members of the 'Nepali Evangelistic Band' [NEB] in India in the 1940s. The Nepali and expatriate members of the NEB walked from Nautanwa in India to Pokhara in 1952, when Nepal opened up to the outside world, and established the country's first public hospital. The NEB later became INF.
