Ballu Chaudhari, 27, worked as a rickshaw puller in Nepalgunj. He was diagnosed with leprosy and, despite taking medication, began to have problems with his eyes and suffered nerve damage which affected his hands and feet. He became so depressed that he even considered suicide. Thankfully, however, he was referred by INF's clinic in Nepalgunj to INF's leprosy centre in Surkhet District. At the INF centre in Surkhet, Ballu was given special medication and was also able to do a two-week course in self-care to help prevent further problems with his eyes, hands and feet. 'Ballu was much more confident after his training,' says INF's self-care facilitator Bashanta Rawat. 'He went home happy and determined not to become depressed again about his condition'.
