Jug Ram, 56, is a farmer from Nepal's Kapilvastu District. He lost both his arms below the elbow seven years ago during Nepal's 'People's War'. A representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross met Jug Ram recently and referred him to INF's Green Pastures Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for people with disabilities in Pokhara. The Orthopædic Appliances Department at Green Pastures took casts of Jug Ram's arms and created special prostheses for him. A special socket was made for each of his arms, which can be fitted with a variety of items including not only cosmetic hands but also a cutting sickle, wooden staff, spoon, cup holder, toothbrush and cleaning device. Jug Ram is now able to do farming work again, such as herding livestock. He is very happy with the prostheses, which will have a big impact on his life.
