Ballu Chaudhari, 25, comes from Nepal's Bardiya District. Ballu earns his living driving a bicycle rickshaw taxi, and has a wife and 3-year-old daughter. Earnings from his job have also enabled Ballu to support the education of his sister and brother, who both now work as teachers.
After he developed a 'patch' on his skin he went to a local health post for a check-up and was referred to INF in Nepalgunj, where leprosy was diagnosed. Eventually he was referred to INF's specialist leprosy centre in Surkhet for further treatment.
He is now feeling much better, though he still has some problems with his hands and legs. After two weeks of training in self-care by INF in Surkhet he has been able to return home to his village. 'Ballu now knows that if he has any further problems he can return to our centre in Surkhet,' says INF nurse Puspa Neupane.
