Nepali New Year
14 Apr 09
Today is the first day of the Nepali New Year.
According to the traditional calendar, it is now the year 2066.
Many Nepali people will be hoping for increased political stability in the country, and economic progress.
The global ‘credit crunch’ is taking its toll in Nepal too.
A major contribution to the Nepali economy is provided by the remittances sent home by migrant workers. However, economic difficulties in favoured destinations like Malaysia and the Gulf mean there may be less opportunities there for Nepali migrants in the near future.
