The funeral of Surendra Gautam was held yesterday morning at Ram Ghat church in Pokhara, after his sudden death on Tuesday.

Surendra Gautam served INF for approximately 30 years, starting work in 1978 in INF’s Leprosy Control Programme in Surkhet. He then served with the Leprosy Control Programme in Ghorahi and Pokhara, before becoming the Administrative Director of INF’s ‘RELEASE’ project which served Nepali people with disabilities, leprosy, HIV / AIDS and drug addiction. Surendra later became INF Worldwide Services Manager, and his final post in INF was as the Manager of the Dang District Programme, based in Ghorahi. Surendra’s father Buddhi Sagar Gautam was one of the founder members of the ‘Nepal Evangelistic Band’ [NEB] who walked into Nepal from India in 1952 after the country opened up to the outside world. The NEB later became INF. The first church building in Nepal – a bamboo and thatch hut – was constructed on land belonging to Buddhi Sagar’s family at Ram Ghat in Pokhara.

Surendra’s brother Dr Deependra Gautam is INF Nepal Executive Director.

Surendra leaves behind his wife Sharada, their four daughters Srijana, Mahima, Sanju and Salima, and their son Prashant.

INF would like to express sincere condolences to Surendra’s family.
