USAID is funding wheelchairs with INF

The US Agency for International Development [USAID] is to give INF a grant of US$660,000 to provide wheelchairs for people with disabilities via its partner World Learning.

‘The aim is to provide around 1,250 wheelchairs over three years,’ says INF’s Stephen Stewart.

‘As a result of the USAID funding, INF will need to recruit five extra staff: a programme administrator; a wheelchair assembler at INF’s Green Pastures Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Pokhara; a wheelchair assembler at INF’s clinic in Surkhet District; a community-based rehabilitation worker in Pokhara; and a community-based rehabilitation worker in Surkhet.’ Each client of the project will receive a medical assessment, fitting for a wheelchair, training in its use, and follow-up and maintenance visits. Funds will also be available to adapt clients' houses for wheelchair use.
