The three-day European Nepal Conference, which ended yesterday in Rehe in Germany, was attended by 190 people from 16 countries.

'The atmosphere was of a global family coming together with a sense of purpose,' says INF UK CEO John Reynolds. 'The programme was varied, covering the work of both INF and the United Mission to Nepal, and the growth of the church among the 'diaspora' of Nepali people around the world.'

Bible teacher John Watson travelled from New Zealand especially to attend the conference. His teaching covered various aspects of God's call: 'to us'; 'to Himself'; and 'to action'. The Bible talk on Saturday morning was on Jesus' call to 'Come and follow me'. Building on Matthew 4:18-20, John described how the call of Jesus is more than a one-time event, from time to time there is a call of renewal or re-dedication, and also a sense of a day-to-day call which pervades every day and every thing.

Using a Hebrew proverb 'May you always be covered by the dust of your rabbi' John explained the practice of disciples in Jesus' day of attaching themselves to a rabbi and his teaching so closely that they absorbed all aspects of the rabbi's life. The meaning of the proverb is 'May you follow the rabbi so closely that the dust his feet kicks up cakes your clothing and lines your face' - giving a picture of the intimacy and closeness involved in the call of Jesus when He says 'Come and follow me'.

One of the purposes of the conference was to encourage and renew European support for Christian mission in Nepal and among Nepali people. During the conference a group of different people from the Netherlands called an impromptu meeting to discuss how they could help Nepali migrants and asylum seekers in their country.
