Many people in INF have been saddened to hear of the death of Peter Hitchin, who passed away peacefully on 28 February after a long illness. A funeral service for Peter took place in the UK yesterday. Peter and his wife Sue served with INF in Nepal for thirteen years from 1971 to 1984, first working in Pokhara as house parents at Gandaki Boarding School, and then working in leprosy control and in administration. Peter served as Acting Director of INF in Nepal in the early 1980s between the departure of Dr Graham Scott-Brown and the arrival of Dr Bill Hawes. Peter also served as INF's UK General Secretary for thirteen years from 1984 until 1997, during which time he supervised the transfer of INF's UK office from Reading to Birmingham. As well as functioning as an office, the Birmingham premises also included a guest facility which was well used by INF Members who were warmly welcomed over the years by Peter and Sue. Peter later served as Development Director for the Church Pastoral Aid Society, working with churches in the UK, and was licensed as a Lay Reader in the Church of England. Peter and Sue have three children, sons Huw and Luke and daughter Naomi. INF's Val Inchley, a colleague and friend of Peter's since the early 1970s, says: 'Pete was a horticulturalist by training but there was hardly a task to which he could not put his hand - be it looking after a hostel full of small boys, or looking after INF when it was without a Director; 'do-it-yourself' repair work, IT, and all the multitude of jobs he did in INF's UK office. We will miss you, Pete. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue, Huw, Luke, Naomi and Pete's extended family.'
