A UK school has bought a house for a disabled INF client via the INF gift catalogue. Funds collected by Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School in Gravesend have paid for a small house for Bharat Giri. Bharat, 46, comes from Nepal's Lamjung District and used to be a night bus driver. As a result of a road accident, his right leg had to be amputated. He came to INF's Green Pastures Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Pokhara for an artificial leg, and while there he was also diagnosed as having leprosy.
As he had no money or house he was unable to return to his own community, and so he settled in Pokhara. INF's Partnership For Rehabilitation programme [PFR] gave him a small grant so that he was able to set up a small butcher's shop. Sadly, his wife left him and their three children to marry another man. She also took all the money that he had earned from the butcher's shop. As a result he had to close his shop.
Despite everything Bharat kept working hard, raising his three children on his own. PFR gave him a loan to help him set up a small hotel business. The business was successful and he was able to return the loan and re-marry.
However, he longed to return to his own community in Lamjung where he had a small plot of land, and PFR supported him with funding from the INF gift catalogue so that he was able to build a house there.
Bharat is very thankful for INF's support and encouragement for him and his family, and for giving him hope after his accident and leprosy diagnosis. Without INF's help, Bharat would not have been able to live independently or provide for his family. He is very happy to be reintegrated into his home community and now hopes to start another hotel business.
A small house for a person with disability costs US$978 / €693 / £595 / AU$1187 / NZ$1457 from the INF gift catalogue. Please click here if you would like to browse the catalogue.
