INF is working among poor and remote communities of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality in Jumla District

About Kanakasundari Rural Municipality

68% of the population have enough food for less than six months of each year

 

 

98% of households rely on seasonal migration for income

 

 

Almost 9% of people have a disability [compated to the national rate of 2%]

 

 

 

More than half of all households lack safe drinking water

 

 

 

Project Goals

Help more than 1,500 people lift themselves above the extreme poverty line [living on less than USD 1.90 per day]

 


Increase the number of households with adequate annual food consumption from 9% to 30%

 

Halve the number of deaths of mothers, newborns and children under the age of five

 

Ensure that more than 50% of children with disabilities attend school [from 10% currently]

 

 

Double the number of people using safe, clean drinking water

Recent achievements

In the last six months, the project has:

  • placed 4 Team Leaders [2 female and 2 male] to live and work in the community
  • recruited and trained 12 Community Mobilisers [5 female and 7 male] from the community to facilitate SHGs
  • formed 111 SHGs– with 2,573 members [98% women and girls], reaching every household in Kanakasundari Rural Municipality
  • conducted public meetings, radio broadcasts and training with political leaders, community members and school students on:
