Pyari was left alone and with debts at a young age when she lost her husband to an illness. Not willing to give up on life, she has overcome her challenges with determination and hard work.

After the untimely demise of her husband in 2006, Pyari was emotionally and financially drained. However, she managed to make ends meet working in the fields. Due to the tremendous load of debts, mostly accumulated from her husband’s treatment before his death, Pyari decided to sell whatever land and ornaments she owned in order to repay her debts.

In 2010, Pyari moved to Pokhara with the hope of pursuing a better life. She joined INF as a trainee at the Vocational Training Center [VTC] where she trained on handicraft making. She learnt to weave cotton thread looms in various patterns on a hand loom. Pyari had a keen interest in handicrafts and hence found the training quite helpful. She seemed a quick learner and with her hard work and skills she acquired she was soon working on a piece-basis at INF’s craft center.

In 2015 INF started an Initiative for Financial Sustainability [IIFS]. This initiative encourages activities that utilise the local resources and assets of INF to generate income that will support INF Nepal’s core activities. Behind INF’s Green Pastures Hospital, INF has been growing fresh produce on the site. The land has been farmed over the years to grow organic vegetables, buffalo milk, eggs and meat, to feed patients and staff at the hospital.

With the help of IIFS, Pyari was provided with an opportunity to manage the outlet which sells vegetables, buffalo milk, eggs and meat produced on the farm. Pyari claims that when she first came to INF she did not know how to operate a calculator. Now, she has built up her confidence and operates the entire outlet by herself.

She has now become self-reliant and hopes of a better future for herself. Moreover, she feels empowered and has developed a positive perception towards life. Her story is one of courage and determination, and an inspiration to many.

PRAY |GIVE | GO | SHARE – Please pray for Pyari as she manages the day-to-day running of the shop. Also pray for IIFS that it would continue to provide training and employment opportunities to many more in need, especially the poor, marginalized, and people with disability, and generate much needed finances to support INF’s work.
