The 2015 earthquake brought devastating tragedy to Sufala Adhikari’s life. Her house collapsed in the quake, burying she and her husband along with their two children. After two hours beneath the rubble, a neighbor rescued Sufala and her sons but her husband’s injuries were too serious and he died.

Sufala had led a happy and content life in Gorkha, the epicentre of the earthquake, but all that changed the day of the earthquake.  Not only had she lost her husband, she was injured and after 11 months of treatment in Kathmandu she returned home on crutches feeling isolated and helpless.

INF began its GRACE Project soon after the earthquake had devastated Gorkha. When Sufala returned she joined an INF facilitated Self-Help Group of other locals with a disability. Through GRACE she was able to access financial and practical assistance in rebuilding her house.

Today Sufala feels thankful she has a home and a renewed hope for the future. She feels motivated to look at other ways her Self-Help Group can improve their community for the long term.
