“Every day, women die during childbirth and babies are born stillborn. With quality throughout pregnancy and childbirth, many of these deaths could be prevented, but countries often lack the knowledge and capacity needed to take actions to stop other women and babies dying in the same way.” [WHO]

The International Nepal Fellowship is currently partnering with HealthBridge Foundation of Canada for a maternal and child health initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada. The initiative is called “Saving Lives of Mothers and Children in Nepal and Vietnam”. Under this initiative, INF is working in seven remote communities in Banke District in Mid-Western Nepal.

You can read about the initiative here.

How can you be involved?

HealthBridge is raising funds for this initiative and is holding a fundraising initiative this September called “Steps for Change”.  The launching of the event will be held in Ottawa, Canada, on Sept 25, but the rest of the fundraising initiative can be done virtually anywhere. For our friends in Ottawa and around, you can sign-up for the event here.

We would encourage our friends from Canada as well as from around the world to support HealthBridge in this campaign to bring life-saving health care to women and children in Nepal.

Their fundraiser involves two parts:

  1. There is the Steps for Change Rally taking place on Sept 25th in Ottawa which is a 5-7 km walk/run event. This is the kick-off event for the Steps for Change Challenge (below). For more information click here.
  2. The Steps for Change Challenge runs from Sept 25 – Oct 22 – you can sign up and challenge yourself to walk 10,000 steps a day for four weeks. This can be done from anywhere, as it is done by each individual on his/her own.  We encourage you to get your friends and family to sponsor you for this challenge, in order to raise funds. For more information click here.

If you are not able to participate, you can also just donate to the project at http://healthbridge.ca/page/donate
