Campaign transforms lives
19 Jan 09
Funds raised by INF’s ‘Get a life!’ disability campaign last week paid for life-changing operations for 15 women in Nepal.
INF Gynæcologist Dr Shirley Heywood performed fistula operations on the women, including two young girls, at the Nepali government’s Surkhet District Hospital in Birendranagar.
The women had been stigmatised for years after suffering from incontinence due to a difficult childbirth or injury.
Shirley was trained in fistula surgery at a specialist hospital in Ethiopia in May last year.
